CMA is pleased to offer this important product to help you take control of your healthcare. However, opening a Health Savings Account (HSA) can be more than just a great way to take control of your healthcare, it also provides you an additional investment opportunity.
Once you have a high deductible health plan (HDHP) and have opened your HSA account, you can decide how you want your HSA contributions invested. CMA has worked with our financial provider to offer investment options for our members who want excess funds in their HSA to work harder for them.
All funds are initially deposited in an HSA Deposit Account at UMB Bank, however, if you have contributions totaling more than you'll need for your expected medical expenses, you will also have the option of opening an investment account that may allow your excess funds to earn more money, all on a tax-deferred basis. You can select a Money Market Sweep Account, which automatically sweeps funds in excess of a “peg balance” that UMB sets into a money market fund. Or, you can request UMB open an account for you at UMB Financial Services, Inc.

If you're not as interested in managing your investments, yet still want to have an investment option that may allow you to earn higher yields, you should consider opening a Money Market Sweep Account with UMB Bank. Excess funds above what you need for expected medical expenses are moved into a money market mutual fund account, yet are still available to you for qualified medical expenses should the need arise.
