Workers' Compensation
CPhA Members Earn 10.1% Dividend 2 Years in a Row!

With this year's 10.1% dividend declaration by the California Pharmacists Association (CPhA), Marsh and the American Automobile Insurance Company, one of the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Companies®, members are receiving a 10.1% dividend two years in a row!

This marks six consective years that members participating in the sponsored workers' compensation program will receive a return of surplus premiums, now totaling $3,696,647*, simply by buying insurance they are required to purchase by law. The dividend will be paid to members enrolled in the sponsored Workers' Compensation Insurance Program during the December 2008 – November 2009 policy year.

Dividend Eligiblity Continues**!

Remember! The dividend calculation takes place every policy year. As long as you remain a member enrolled in the program for the entire policy period, and do not owe Fireman's Fund premium for any outstanding audits, you may be eligible for any potential dividend that is declared for that year. This serves to reduce your net premium even further.

Low Minimum Premium of $750!*

Workers’ Compensation protection is required by California state law. It provides benefits to employees due to a job-related injury or illness, for which the employer may otherwise be liable.

CPhA's program is written on a dividend eligible basis. If there is favorable program experience over time, members might share in profits earned by the insurer on policies issued in the CPhA program by way of dividends.**

Special services include access to the Fireman's Fund Risk AdvisorSM portal on the internet, designed exclusively for pharmacists. You'll find specialized products and services such as loss prevention tools, online claims filing, listings of current medical providers, and industry news.

* Rate and minimum premium subject to change on program anniversary.
**Payment of future dividends cannot be promised or guaranteed. Past dividend performance is no guarantee of an insurer's future dividend performance.

Business Owners Package
Business Owners Package

Fireman’s Fund enhanced its policy for CPhA members in two ways. The first important way was to recognize the changing scope of the practice of pharmacy. They did this by defining Pharmacy Services as the art, practice, or profession of preparing, preserving, compounding, dispensing, administering, and consulting upon medicines, medical drugs, supplies, equipment or devices used in the treatment of medical disorders and maladies rendered by the insured in the capacity of a pharmacy or pharmacist.

Secondly, Fireman’s Fund also enhanced their policy to provide professional liability protection to your employed pharmacists. While your policy likely affords protection to you as the pharmacy owner for the acts or omissions of your employees, does it protect your employees for their own acts or omissions? More importantly, do they believe they have protection under your policy? No need to worry with Fireman’s Fund. Licensed employed pharmacists are protected.

The Package Program provides property, liability, commercial auto and umbrella coverage. It also includes protection specifically designed for Pharmacies, such as:

  • General Liability Coverage – helps protect you from losses caused by bodily injury or destruction of property suffered by customers on your premises.
  • Business Income and Extra Expense Coverage – protects against loss of income from business interruption for up to 12 months, and pays the cost of necessary extra expenses to help keep you in business.
  • Professional Liability – protects against losses related to your professional services as a pharmacist.
  • Money and Securities Coverage – protects against loss of currency and other negotiable instruments on and off your premises, as well as loss due to counterfeit money and bad checks.

Professional Liability
Professional Liability

The CPhA Professional Liability program is specifically tailored to fit the diverse needs of pharmacists. And it covers you 24 hours a day, not just when you are at your normal place of employment.

As a pharmacist, this policy protects you in the event of an error or omission in the practice of pharmacy for all procedures approved by the California Board of Pharmacy as long as you have received the proper training and/or certification required and you are acting within the scope of practice.

Long Term Care
Long Term Care

Helps Protect You Against the Rising Cost of Nursing Home, Community Care and care at home.

Although you may believe that you are too young to start thinking about long-term care and its costs, consider this: premiums are based on age, the younger you are when you purchase this coverage, the lower your premium will be.

Insurers reserve the right to adjust future premiums for all policyholders by state and class. Your premiums will never increase due to changes in your health status or your age. The Long-Term Care Insurance Plan sponsored by the California Pharmacists Association can help you protect your assets while providing you with the high quality protection you need. Your parents and parents-in-law can also apply for this coverage.

The Plan reimburses benefits during covered nursing home stays and offers several choices of daily benefits and payment maximums. An inflation protection option is also available.

In addition, home and community care coverage is available to complete your long-term care protection. This coverage reimburses for covered care at home and in the community, such as adult day care centers.

As a California Pharmacists Association member, you have access to a special benefit—the Long-Term Care Resources Network, a unique long-term care buying service. This benefit allows you to work with a long-term care insurance representative who will give you all the information about benefits and rates of different highly rated long-term care provides. With so many different providers, you may have questions about the coverage they provide:

  • Which plan or options offers the least expensive premium? Is one plan more flexible than another to help fit into my budget?
  • What if I have a current health condition—can I still get coverage?
  • What about protection for my spouse? Are there couple discounts available if we both apply?
  • Are there discounts for healthy applicants?
  • Which long-term care insurance offers more of the benefits I want or need?

One simple phone call to the Long-Term Care Resources Network for CPhA members is all it takes to start protecting your assets from long-term health risks and get your questions answered. No obligation necessary! For more information, a one-on-one consultation with an experienced Long-Term Care Resources Network Representative and how to apply, please call 1-800-616-8759 or visit www.myltcplan.com/cpha.

FAQs

What is the Cost of Care?
The cost for nursing home private room care varies by state.

What is the Cost of Waiting to Purchase Long-Term Care Insurance?
If you are thinking of waiting to purchase long-term care insurance coverage, consider the impact of waiting:

  • Increases the risk of being ineligible for insurance
  • Decreases the overall time you have long-term care insurance coverage
  • Can increase the overall cost of coverage because premium rates increase with age

Waiting delays covering your long-term care risk and can cost you money.

Won't the Federal Government Pay for My Long-Term Care?
While many people think the federal government pays for long-term care expenses, nationally, over 25 percent of all nursing home expenses are paid out-of-pocket by individuals and their families. Neither Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance nor the major medical health insurance provided by employers is designed to pay for long-term care expenses.
